Don't know how much you're into movies. If you enjoy watching movies off the mainstream, you shouldn't miss "Tropa de Elite" and "Tropa de Elite 2" (Enemy Within). I came across these two masterpieces when seeing adverts of "Max Payne 3". I guess the game and the movies share the same setting (South-America, paramilitaries on the loose, political corruption, police being scared, looking away or working into their own pockets). However, unlike "Max Payne 3", both movies are highly controversial in the sense of giving a relative realistic view into polities, policies and politics in states like Brazil, Columbia, Mexico etc. Really recommended!
The first movie is more focused on the emergence and establishment of the special unit BOPE (the brasilian military police).
The second movie is focused on the political system, criticizing established institutions.
